I also am working on a paper this semester, though more general topic: the
development of orthographies (writing systems) for native languages (my
personal interest is Lakota/Dakota/Nakota). The question of written
standardization of oral languages is an important question which I am trying
to find out more about. I would appreciate a copy of any postings in answer
to Thomas' questions, as well as netter's knowledge, insights or reference
sources on the more general "standardization" process -- historic and/or
contemporary.
As always, thanks for sharing the collective wisdom.
