Mary Jo,
The Nez Perce tribe article is also in the Sunday LA Times
insert, which goes out nation wide. I enjoyed reading both
articles.
Reading these articles reminded me of how our Government is
forcing the Dineh off their land in because they wouldn't sign
their land over to Coal/Uranium companies. Meanwhile Peabody Coal
Company pollutes the land, water and air. We can not let this
happen again! The Navajo land is sacred to the Dine, it is
everything to them.
I attended a Benefit Concert for the Dineh here in Pasadena a
couple weeks ago and to hear the elders stories was very sad. I
sure hope people of AISES will participate to help the Dine.

Subject: Horace makes page one!
Hello everybody!
Our elder, grandfather Horace Axtell of the Nez Perce tribe,
has made the front page of the Los Angeles Times! In the
Saturday June 14 issues of the LA Times, there is a front
page story about the return of some of the land in the
Wallowa Valley (now in Oregon) to the Nez Perce. Grandfather
Horace's name is mentioned on page one. It is a beautiful
and lengthy article, with a color picture of Elder Horace
and many pictures of the land and of tribal members. Horace's
nephew and former AISES officer Jaime Pinkham is also mentioned
in the article.
It is a miracle when some of our people come home, and I feel
that somehow we all are blessed when this happens.
Peace,
