Subject: Wilma Mankiller
Hello Friends at AISES: Perhaps many of you have learned by this time that
Wilma Mankiller (former Chief of the Cherokee Nation) has been admitted to
a
hospital in Boston, Massachusetts, where she is undergoing treatment for
lymphoma. Her disease was discovered only recently. Lymphoma is a type of
cancer that develops in the lymphatic system, which is part of the immune
system. As lymphoma progresses, the body is less able to fight infection.
Wilma has been with us at Dartmouth as a Montgomery Fellow for the Winter
Term,
1996.
